If there is already a large number of French texts translated into Bernese, the opposite has been, until now rare, even unprecedented. However, this Germanic dialect lends itself particularly well to a translation in French because, through its history and its geographical proximity, it has incorporated into it's vocabulary expressions and French terms. Barbara Traber and Corinne Verdan-Moser have succeeded in finding, each in their mother tongue, the right word, the precise phrase, capable of arousing the same emotion on both sides of the Sarine.
In a few seemingly innocuous lines, these miniatures sublimate an impression, a reflection, a description of nature or an atmosphere to make a poetic microcosm. Starting from a concrete and immediate situation, they often have a double meaning and conclude with a fall or a philosophical thought, sometimes tinged with melancholy or spiced with humor. Similar to the spirit of the haiku, they are punctuated by the seasons which play an important role and symbolize the ephemeral character of life.
In the end, these texts in two voices create a dialogue spanning the language barrier, a bridge that connects and enriches those who cross it.
